John Swanson,
editor/
associate publisher of Window & Door | Numerous exhibitors at the AMD show were buzzing about Fortune Brands’ decision to pull its companies—including Therma-Tru Doors—out of the 2008 International Builders’ Show. I heard unconfirmed rumors that other companies—including a big window manufacturer—had dropped out or were considering dropping out too.
News like that reinforces what most of us know already—times are tough for the new housing market. Combined with the fact that IBS is returning to Orlando for what seems like the 10th year in a row, the current market conditions are likely to translate into more exhibitors’ passing on the February event, lower-key participation among others and lower attendance overall. On the other hand, I know tough times also leads some companies to push harder to gain share, so some may be out in full force.
What about your company? Are your plans changing? That’s our poll question of the week. As usual, I’d like to hear from you too. What do you think the 2008 IBS will look like? Can people afford to take a pass? Is it more important to go now? Do you have something new and different you’ll be out in full force promoting? Email me and let me know what you think.
