Preventive maintenance mitigateswater damage

Water damage often occurs in unoccupied sections of a building or at hours when a business is closed.
The following are steps you can take to prevent a water damage loss:
- Inspect plumbing annually, including all pipes and fittings. Replace those that indicate wear and drips. Do not overly tighten fittings.
- Replace plastic couplings with threaded metal couplings as these fail less often than plastic, especially if plastic couplings have been over tightened.
- Replace supply lines every five to seven years.
- Verify that system water pressure does not exceed the ratings of the pipes and fittings. Excess pressure can cause the fittings to fail.
