Preventive maintenance mitigateswater damage

Water damage often occurs in unoccupied sections of a building or at hours when a business is closed.

The following are steps you can take to prevent a water damage loss:
  • Inspect plumbing annually, including all pipes and fittings. Replace those that indicate wear and drips. Do not overly tighten fittings.
  • Replace plastic couplings with threaded metal couplings as these fail less often than plastic, especially if plastic couplings have been over tightened.
  • Replace supply lines every five to seven years.
  • Verify that system water pressure does not exceed the ratings of the pipes and fittings. Excess pressure can cause the fittings to fail.

For more information about loss control measures that are a part of a good risk management program, call the NGA-sponsored insurance program, GlassInsure at 800/640-7601 or visit www.glassinsure.com.
