Neutral gray low-E glass
Pittsburgh’s PPG Industries Inc. introduced Solarban z50, solar control low-E glass with a steel blue-gray appearance, and a free Solarban z50 design kit. The glass provides glare control along with daylighting and solar control properties, according to company literature. It features visible light transmittance of 51 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient of .31 in a standard 1-inch insulating unit with clear glass, and a resulting light-to-solar-gain ratio of 1.61. Available through PPG’s certified fabricator network, it can be annealed, heat-strengthened, tempered and laminated. The design kit shows Solarban z50 in combination with six PPG clear and tinted glasses in standard 1-inch insulating glass units; resulting tints range from aqua-blue to light-gray. The design kit can be ordered at www.ppgideascapes.com or by calling 888/PPG-IDEA.
