Officials say glass cutter died after accident at PPG plant
Neil McMichael, a 61-year-old employee of PPG Industries of Pittsburgh, allegedly died from injuries sustained during an industrial accident at PPG’s Crestline, Ohio, facility on Sept. 13, according to a Sept. 14 article from the Mansfield News Journal. McMichael, a 44-year company veteran, operated a glass-cutting line at the facility.

County coroner Stewart Ryckman said in the article that part of a glass rolling machine fell onto McMichael and he became caught in the machine.

“There are mechanisms for safety to prevent the machine from dropping down. Either they didn’t work or he bypassed them,” Ryckman said in the article.

PPG officials are investigating the accident along with state and federal officials from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, according to the article.
