Glazed-roof sunroom brings new light to historic home
|
The basics: The glass-enclosed sunroom at the Magar residence in Tuxedo, N.Y., features framing systems of wood and aluminum to blend into the historic home. The glass features several coatings to prevent heat gain, block ultraviolet rays and prevent dirt build up. The National Sunroom Association of Cleveland awarded the sunroom in the top prize for the $30,000 and over category in its 2006 design awards. To see all the winners, click here.
The players: Glass and system manufacturer, Four Seasons Sunrooms, Holbrook, N.Y.; builder, installer and dealer, Better By Design, Middletown, N.Y.
The glass: 1-inch insulating glass units using ConservaGlass Plus glazing featuring several coatings, including two on the exterior that keep the glass cleaner by preventing water beading and breaking down organic materials. Wood interior frames and aluminum exterior frames with a glazing track system to support the roof glass, using a gasketed system to keep the glass isolated from wood and allow movement of aluminum and wood during temperature changes. |
