In the face of uncertainty, 'take risks,' says economist at GlassBuild America
The U.S. economy is emerging, albeit slowly, from the Great Recession, and the construction industry is starting to experience sluggish growth. Glass companies looking to take advantage of the market need to take risks, said Jeff Dietrich, senior analyst, Institute for Trend Research, during the 6th annual Glazing Executives Forum in Atlanta.

Steve Jobs famously said that innovation distinguishes a leader from a follower, a sentiment that resonates at every trade show and more when times are tough. One innovator at GlassBuild America is Barkow, whose new "Super single" rear tires caused a security stir on Sept. 11.

Day 1 of GlassBuild America is in the books, and after a slow start the afternoon saw some brisk movement throughout the hall. My first thought is this year the show floor looks the best it has ever looked. The exhibiting companies really brought their "A" games.

Darlington fire company 9/11 memorial
On the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, the Darlington (Md.) Volunteer Fire Company dedicated a 9/11 memorial at its new Dublin Fire Station. The memorial features a piece of steel from one of the Twin Towers, enclosed in glass.
