Glass website re-launches as GlassMagazine.com
 The redeveloped and redesigned Web site, GlassMagazine.com, now offers a segmented structure, similar to the recently redesigned Glass Magazine. Content related to the Commercial, Retail and Auto glass segments, as well as a Fabrication segment, is available via a user-friendly navigation. A Search box allows users to perform a full-text search of content dating back to 2004. Filters can be used to search content by topic, date, issue and more. RSS feeds provide around-the-clock updates as articles, news and products are added to the site. Visit the new site here.

Tinted glazing adds modern look to Michigan middle school
“The most challenging part of this project was layout and installation of the segmented curtain wall system for the circular clerestory. Since all horizontals including the glass are flat, the metal had to be cut on an angle to create the rounded curtain wall. Also, the curtain wall has two different colors of framing and it steps up in two different areas.”

 The basics: Pattengill Middle School, Lansing, Mich., providing a flagship look for future Lansing School District facilities, displays 14,000 square feet of exterior glazing that costs $914,000. The 200,000-square-foot building features a circular clerestory with high-performance blue-green tinted glass, triple-glazed units with integral internal blinds, fiberglass translucent wall panel fabricated by Oldcastle Glass Naturalite, Santa Monica, Calif., and 9,000 square feet of exterior Dri-Design aluminum panels, a dry-joint pressure-equalized rain screen system. Completed in 2007, the school cost $30.4 million.

The glass and systems: Punched openings contain Litex’s triple-glazed units made up of two outside panes of PPG Azuria low-E in an 1-inch sealed insulating glass unit, aluminum blind in 1 1/8-inch air space, and one interior hinged glass panel of ¼-inch clear tempered that gives access to the blind.Kawneer’s 1600 Wall System 1, clear anodized, holds two ¼-inch lites of PPG Azuria in a 1-inch insulating glass unit fabricated by Oldcastle Glass. Two types of Dri-Design panels, finished with silver mica paint, were used: 24-inch-by-24-inch panels in .063 aluminum and 24-inch-by-48-inch panels in .080 aluminum.
