Hospital in Arlington gets new bed tower
“One of the interesting challenges was that we had to tie this wing onto an existing, operating hospital. We had to work with the administrative folks to make sure we would not disturb their day to day chores.” - David Griffin, vice president of project management, DGB Glass Inc., Fort Worth, Texas
 The basics: The health care expansion in Texas continued with the addition of a new bed tower at the Arlington Memorial Hospital. The new wing was built on the back of the existing hospital and was completed in November of 2007. A sloped skylight attaches the new building to the old structure.
The players: Architect, HKS Inc., Dallas; general contractor, Balfour Beatty, London; glazing contractor, DGB Glass Inc., Forth Worth; glass fabricator, Arch Aluminum & Glass Co., Tamarac, Fla.; wall system, Kawneer Co., Norcross, Ga.
The glass and systems: The building features about 43,000 square feet of glass and panels. Kawneer products used on the project include the 1600 Wall System 2, 2250 Inside Glazed and 1600 Sloped Glazing. The glass was 1-inch solar bronze with Ti AC-36 low-E coating. The 4-millimeter composite panels were supplied by Reynobond, Eastman, Ga. The louvers came from Ruskin, Kansas City, Mo.
