MotorCity façade reflects Detroit’s automotive history

 The basics: MotorCity Casino Hotel is Detroit’s new 17-story luxury hotel in the MotorCity Casino Complex. It builds on the city's rich history, featuring a fusion of automotive design and cutting-edge technology. The structure features a curtain wall glass system accented with horizontal bands designed to reflect the light of internal continuous light emitting diode fixtures.
The players: Architect, Giffels Inc., Southfield, Michigan; glazier, American Glass & Metal Corp., Plymouth, Mich.; glass fabricator, Oldcastle Glass, Santa Monica, Calif.; glass manufacturers, Guardian Industries Corp., Auburn Hills, Mich., ACH Glass, Tulsa.; curtain wall supplier, Vistawall Architectural Products, Terrell, Texas.
The glass: The owners selected Versalux Blue 2000 float glass for the outboard lite to give the glass a blue/gray, almost metallic look. Guardian’s SunGuard SuperNeutral 68 was selected on clear glass on the inboard lite to improve the overall glass thermal and solar performance. Casinos tend to have fast-track schedules and meeting deadlines was critical. As a SunGuard Select Fabricator, Oldcastle Glass met the tight schedules to keep the project on track.
