Channel glass creates intriguing storefront for Anthropologie
“Anthropologie [officials] like to keep a sense of mystery with their stores. They don’t have big signs or flashy advertising. They let the architecture speak for their brand. In this store, the variation across the façade using channels in different finishes gives that sense of mystery.” — Dan Wood, project architect
|
The basics: In February, the Anthropologie store opened at the Dos Lagos shopping center in Corona, Calif. Instead of using traditional clear glass for the storefront, architects specified four types of channels for the front façade, three of glass and one of aluminum.
The players: Architect, Work AC, New York; contract glazier, D&R Glass Inc., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.; glass supplier, Bendheim Wall Systems, Passaic, N.J.; general contractor, Russell-Filand Builders Inc., Glendale, Ariz..
The glass and systems: Three textures of Linit channel glass: Klar/Clarissimo with low-emissivity coating, making the exterior surface iridescent; Sandblasted Solar, creating a frosted look with a fine mesh pattern; and Piccolo, a fine ribbed texture. |
